Easter 2017: Family fun in London

If you’re considering a trip to the capital with your little chicks this Easter, what are the best events to enjoy?

Whether you fancy a bit of culture, want to learn new things or just enjoy some fun in the open air, here are a few of our favourite family attractions in London…

Easter Giant Duck Hunt

Conservation charity The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is inviting families to take part in a giant duck hunt at the London Wetland Centre – and those who find all the giant wildfowl will win a chocolate prize. It’s a lovely time of year to explore the centre, with new life springing up everywhere; and only £1 to take part in the hunt (plus the usual entry fee).

WHERE AND WHEN? London Wetland Centre (10 minutes from Hammersmith), 1 to 17 April 2017.

Matilda: The Musical

This West End show is a treat for the whole family, bringing Roald Dahl’s famous children’s book to life with music by comedian Tim Minchin and writing for stage by playwright Dennis Kelly. It’s won more than 75 international awards and has been described by critics as joyous, gleefully nasty and ingenious. In this production, Craige Els stars as fearsome headmistress Miss Trunchbull, while Miria Parvin plays Miss Honey; and Michael Begley and Rebecca Thornhill play Mr and Mrs Wormwood.

WHERE AND WHEN? The Cambridge Theatre, Covent Garden – and don’t worry if you can’t visit during Easter, as it’s on from 28 February to 15 October 2017.

Tall Ships Regatta (Rendez-Vous 2017)

See a fleet of more than 30 tall ships convene on the River Thames over the Easter weekend, at the Maritime Greenwich and Royal Arsenal Woolwich riverfronts. They’ll be getting ready for a race to

Canada, 7,000 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean – stopping at Portugal, Bermuda and Boston on the way. Visitors can go aboard a ship during the day, or enjoy fireworks during an evening cruise. And while you’re in the area, why not also see the Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory and the National Martitime Museum?

WHERE AND WHEN? Greenwich, 13 to 16 April 2017.

Jurassic Kingdom, London

For a fun and educational day out this Easter, you can’t do much better than Jurassic Kingdom, which takes place in Osterley Park during the school holidays. Explore the park to find more than 30 life-sized dinosaur models which move and roar, thanks to clever technology. There’ll also be the chance to excavate dinosaur bones and enjoy tasty fare from street food vendors.

WHERE AND WHEN? Osterley Park, London (sat nav TW7 4RD), 1 to 17 April 2017.
